Original Research

We may decide we have important questions to which we can not find answers in existing research, or we may decide we want to replicate research using students participating in this project. This page marks a space where we may brainstorm about, design, and carry out original research should we decide to do so.

Survey on "Girls are Taking Over - Nerdiness and the New Gender Gap"

The Humanities 7 class of Stoneleigh-Burnham School would like to know what other schools thought about this article. We thought it sounded like an adult trying to write about kids but not really knowing about kids, and that the reporter may have had an idea of what she wanted to write before she started writing it. So we decided to send a survey to other schools in this project and see what kids thought about the main ideas in this article. You do not have to have read the article to take the survey. We will present our results as soon as possible.

Analysis of MCAS Scores: The Humanities 7 class of Stoneleigh-Burnham School performed an analysis of the MCAS scores for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007. In brief, we found that:
  1. Girls did better on the English MCAS in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
  2. Girls and boys did equally well on the math MCAS in 2005 and 2007, but girls did slightly better than boys on the math MCAS in 2006.
  3. Boys did better on the science MCAS in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
You may view tables showing the results of our analysis year by year, and a more detailed discussion of our findings, in the full Report on MCAS scores.
